Survey on outpatients with Ophthalmic diseases and it´s drugs in St. Mary´s Hospital

Abstract

|
We analyzed the data of 23,817 medication orders of outpatients with ophthalmic diseases from September, 1989 to August, 1990 in St. Mary´s Hospital. The results were as follows : １. The most common type of opthalmic diseases was cataract which accounted for 26.7％ of total ophthalmic outpatieuts, the next was retinal disease and glaucoma. ２. Prevalence of ophthalmic diseases were trended upward according to getting old. The frequency of female´s cataract was higher than male´s but inversely in glaucoma, and there was little differences in retinal diseases. ３. 42.9％ of cataract patients and 66.8％ of glaucoma patients were used topical drugs. The most frequent prescribed eye drops were Catalin in cataract and benfunolol in glaucoma.
